201 Rainbow Drive - Sleepy Hollow, Illinois

Another marvelous house with a lot of lawn to mow with a hand mower.   My folks moved to Elgin while I was in college and I accidentally came home to the wrong house by force of habit.

I painted this house in one day with “Jumpin Jack Flash” repeating on my portable 45 rpm record player.   It must have played a couple hundred times.   I can’t help but think of that song every day because my garage door opener starts out with the same sound.

Many, many years later, I got married and had children.  They wanted a dog but we couldn’t have one because of my son and wife’s allergies.  We found out that Bichons are good for people who have allergies.  We reseached kennels and we found a good one in Oklahoma.   The woman who ran the kettle used to live across the street from me at this house when we were kids.   Small world.   She drove home with our second puppy and I found myself in her parents house, looking out their picture window to my old house.   That was great.
